What this is, and what it is not. We are an independent private company. We are not a government agency and are not affiliated with AAA, AATA, the United Nations or any licensing authority. In the United States the official government permit is issued only by AAA and AATA; where a country legally requires that document, our translation is not a substitute for it.

Where the country data comes from

Every destination page states whether a permit is expected, which convention format applies, and the local rules that matter to a visiting driver. Those facts are compiled from four kinds of source, and each page carries the date its records last changed.

Avoiding permit scams

1No private website can issue an official or government International Driving Permit. Treat that claim as a warning sign.

2Share licence details only where you can see what the document is, what it costs, and who is behind it.

3Know what you are buying. A certified translation is a useful travel document, not a licence.

4Look for the limits stated plainly, not buried. They are stated on this page and in our terms.
