Driving in Uzbekistan

Driving in Uzbekistan as a visitor

Usually yes. Uzbekistan expects visiting drivers to carry an International Driving Permit alongside their national licence, and rental desks ask for one. It matters most when your licence is not printed in the Latin alphabet.

On the road in Uzbekistan

At the pump

Many Uzbek cars run on methane (CNG) and propane (LPG), so those are widely sold, while petrol (AI-92/95, ~$0.55/L) and diesel (~$0.50/L) can be scarce in rural areas; fill up in Tashkent or Samarkand. Stations are attended and largely cash-based.

After a crash

Dial 112 (unified emergency) or 102 for police; reporting a crash to the traffic police is mandatory and you must leave vehicles in place until officers document the scene. Get the official report for any insurance or rental claim.
