Driving in Nicaragua as a visitor
Not legally, but it is worth carrying. Nicaragua accepts foreign licences, and a permit removes any argument at the rental counter or a roadside check.
Standard delivery included. Need it sooner? Express lands by for $25 more.
Reviewed July 2026 · A translation of your own licence, carried with it. Not a government permit.

On the road in Nicaragua
At the pump
Stations sell gasolina (regular/super) and diesel at roughly US$1.30 per litre, are attendant-served, and city stations take cards while many rural ones and tolls/shops are cash-only; fill up before long rural stretches.
After a crash
Do not move the vehicles; wait for police and insurance representatives before anything is moved. Call 118 for police; drivers in a serious-injury or DUI crash can be taken into custody, and a police report is mandatory for claims.
